As the festive season approaches, Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica becomes a stage for sound and light. Staying true to its mission of preservation, the Foundation is presenting a series of concerts where art and history intertwine. From jazz-infused Christmas classics to timeless carols, each event offers a unique way to celebrate the holidays in one of the most iconic landmarks of Montreal’s heritage.

Charlie at the Chapel – December 13 and 23

Step into holiday nostalgia with Charlie at the Chapel, inspired by Vince Guaraldi’s legendary album A Charlie Brown Christmas. The Chambristes du Grand Montréal, the Rozan Trio, and the basilica’s lyrical artists join forces, under the direction of Karl A. Rozankovic, to offer original arrangements where jazz, strings, and voices converge. A magical evening for children and adults of all ages, where music becomes a bridge between generations.

The OM presents Christmas Oratorio – December 17

Under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Orchestre Métropolitain brings Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio to life. Six monumental cantatas narrate the Nativity, with soaring harmonies and intricate vocal lines. In the basilica’s majestic setting, this masterpiece becomes a rare architectural and spiritual experience.

Lyrical Christmas – December 19 and 20

The Temps Fort choir, led by Pascal Germain-Berardi, revisits rare works from the choral repertoire, from William Dawson to Francis Poulenc. Staying true to its inclusive and bold approach, Temps Fort transforms each performance into a vibrant moment, where human warmth meets artistic excellence.

Hymns Concert – December 26, 27, 29 and 30

A recital of the most beautiful Christmas carols, performed by the basilica’s lyrical artists: Pascale Brigitte Boilard, Sasha Djihanian, and Catherine St-Arnaud. The program includes classics such as O Holy Night and He Is Born, the Divine Child, accompanied by Martin Boucher and Martin Dubé on the organ and Gaveau piano, respectively.

A Gesture for Heritage

Beyond the music, these events support the basilica’s restoration, which began in 2024. The profits will be devoted to this major project, in order to ensure that this historic monument continues to shine as the dawn of its bicentennial approaches.
